Paraphrasing

   Today in Mr. Rease's class we covered two of Shakespeare's sonnet poems. The one we mainly discussed was sonnet 18. This poem is also known as ''Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day''. As a class we analyzed the poem, but prior to that we were expected to paraphrase each line of the poem on our own. I felt as though I did well on the paraphrase portion into we went over it. When we analyzed it together I came to a conclusion that paraphrasing is a weak area for me. This was simply because nearly all of my answers were incorrect.

Therapeutic at its Best

Class went well today. It started off with a series of therapeutic questions. Each question seemed to be more therapeutic than the other. They were asking about things I yearned to talk about with my family, especially my mother. It was as if the answers were waiting to be spilled out. It was like seeing the questions on the board was a cue for both the answers and tears to release. In fact, I cried while answering one of the them, and I will forever cherish that moment. I’ve been holding back tears all week and I finally stopped fighting. I was tired of pretending everything was okay. I was happy to have that slight moment of reality. The Real Reflection

Today I started rereading The Kite Runner by Khalid Hosseini. As I was reading I came to the realization that I’m much more knowledge than I was the first time I read the novel, two years ago. For example, I never knew the importance of support, especially parental support until I lacked it. In chapter three of the novel Amir’s father, Baba, wants him to follow in his footsteps instead of going after his own interests. He taunts Amir and calls him weak because of his crying and wanting to be different. This reveals that he isn’t open minded, and his belief of manhood is different. I never would have thought like this. The very first time I read I wasn’t reading for comprehension; I was reading because I was required. I never thought about what the author was trying to portray. I was ignorant to it all. Blind, naive, and unaware I was all of it. I didn’t even consider the simplest thing of them all, character analysis. Alabama State University

Today I went on a field trip to Alabama State University. As I walked on the campus I got an unwelcoming vibe. From then on, I knew that the school wasn’t from me. However I learned some interesting facts. For example, I learned that Dr. Martin Luther King gave his commencement speech there. I also learned more about pivotal African Americans such as Zora Neale Hurston. Despite the school not being my top pick; the field trip was very enlightening.
